Fuel systems, storage tanks, and oil-handling equipment need materials that resist hydrocarbons, additives, and biofuel blends. This chart compares materials commonly used in fuel infrastructure.
A = Excellent B = Good C = Limited D = Not Recommended
PTFE and Viton (FPM) offer excellent resistance to gasoline and its additives. HDPE is commonly used for fuel tanks but is rated B (good) rather than A. NBR is the standard for fuel hoses and seals. EPDM should be avoided — it swells in gasoline.
Is PVDF resistant to diesel?
Yes, PVDF has excellent (A-rated) resistance to diesel fuel, biodiesel blends, and most mineral oils. It is widely used in fuel transfer piping and tank linings.
